"It has been my pleasure to make the acquaintance of Mr. Barry Hou, "Marquis Violins" of Pasadena, California. A simple telephone call to his place of business sparked my curiosity to know more about this very interesting person. Intrigued by a brochure, which I received in the mail announcing the services of Marquis Violins, I wanted to know more. What developed was my own interest to present Mr. Hou to my "Music Institute for the Development of Personal Style" in memory of Jascha Heifetz, which takes place in Ashland, Oregon at the end of June. Based on our telephone conversations, I was convinced that Mr. Hou would be not only a source of valuable information and education, but also would be a personable presenter. Indeed, upon his arrival to Ashland, I was extremely delighted to observe the students response to the interesting way in which he presented violins of contrasting values, different makers, always encouraging the students comments and fielding questions. There was an enormous interest generated to know more: Exactly the mission of education! I heartily recommend Mr. Barry Hou as a fine and capable person to represent our craft, and as a delightful person, I offer my best wishes for continued success" - August 2001."
